Six Tips for Celebrating Anniversaries
Celebration in relationships is extremely important. The point of celebration is to rejoice with one another about an event in your lives. It promotes connection, togetherness, and intimacy between partners and rejuvenates the relationship. Especially celebrating the day you committed your lives to one another. Wedding anniversaries are important, regardless of what culture conveys. Your anniversary is a day to remember your promises and love for one another. Below you will find helpful tips for celebrating your anniversary from an Indianapolis marriage counseling
expert. Some tips are more extravagant than others, so find the one that works best for you and your marriage.
Tip One: Remember your anniversary.
In the hustle and bustle of life, it’s easy to get dates mixed up. But your wedding anniversary should not be one of them. Mark it on your calendar months ahead so that you won’t confuse it with another date.
Tip Two: Find a date that works best for you and your spouse to celebrate.
If your anniversary falls on a day when you can’t celebrate, pick a new date and make a plan to celebrate your anniversary when it works best.
Tip Three: Show your partner you remembered your anniversary and that your anniversary matters to you.
Simply saying “happy anniversary” shows your partner that your relationship matters. Buy a card or make dinner together. Watch your favorite movie or spend time with one another after your kids are asleep. Anniversaries don’t need to be extravagant, but they do need to be special. Take your everyday activities (like cooking dinner) and make it special time for you and your spouse.
Tip Four: Bring back wedding memories.
Pull out your wedding pictures or read your vows again to one another. If you have kids, tell them about your wedding day and why it was so special. Show one another that you are still committed and excited about your marriage. Relationships are tough, so take your anniversary to remember all the pieces that you love.
Tip Five: Take a trip.
Honeymoons are awesome because you get to relax and have fun with the person you just married. This doesn’t have to stop now that you’ve been married for fifteen years. Plan a trip or another honeymoon to celebrate your relationship. Get away from your routine and relax together. Play and have fun like you did fifteen years ago. This will revitalize your relationship and give you both time to recharge.
Tip Six: Make a list of requests for your spouse.
Have your spouse pick three items to do for you throughout the day. Maybe you’re tired of doing the laundry, so request that your spouse do a load on your anniversary. Or maybe your spouse doesn’t want to cut the grass this week and requests that you do so. Be creative and ask for things you really want. You both will end up pleased and feeling special because your spouse did something for you that you requested.
Celebrate your anniversary whether big or small. Remind yourself why you chose your relationship and remind your spouse of your commitment and love for your relationship. Your anniversary should be fun and special, so use the tips above to plan your perfect day.
